Obituary of Helena Dyck

Peacefully on Friday, March 6, 2009 at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, our mother, grandmother and great grandmother, passed away at the age of 94. On the 18th of February she celebrated her 94th birthday by going out with family and friends, seemingly in good health. She was hospitalized on February 26 for what we thought would be a short time, and she would again return to her home, but God had other plans for her. Mom was predeceased by her husband, Jacob N. Dyck in 1996, and a young son, Waldemar, in 1944, two daughters-in-law: Toni and Dora. Left to mourn her passing are her six sons: Harold and wife Alfrieda of Winnipeg, Willmuth (Bill) of Steinbach, Arnold of Lethbridge, AB, Leonard of Linden, Elmer and wife Shirley of Kelowna, BC and Harvey of Macklin, SK; eight grandchildren: Harold’s children - Geoffrey, Laurel (Ron) Gerbrandt and Kevin; Bill’s children - Russ (Shannon), Kathleen (Bryan) Dueck, Paul (Robyn) and Andrea (Garvis) Bonkowski; Leonard’s daughter - Valarie (Wendelyn) Bittner; Elmer’s daughters - Leigh and Laine; and Harvey’s son Myron; as well as 11 great grandchildren. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach on Monday, March 9 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The Funeral Services will be held on Tuesday, March 10, 11:00 a.m. at the Southland Community Church, Hwy 52 W, in Steinbach with interment at the Heritage Cemetery. Mom’s pastors, Darrel Dyck and Leonard Sawatzky (Gospel Fellowship Church) will be officiating. Donations in Mom’s memory may be made to the Gospel Message, Box 1760; Warman, SK S0K 4S0
