It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of Jacob (Jake) Rempel. He passed away Thursday, March 12th at his residence in the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach at the age of 86 years. Jacob leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Esther Rempel of Steinbach, their children Wendy (Keith) Inscho of Camrose, AB, their children Aimee (Clayton) Kroeker (their children Avery and Kelsey) and Ranee (Greg) Nilsson (their children Emily and Mary); Doug (Marcie) Rempel of Steinbach, MB their children Karla, David and Andrew (Amanda) Rempel (their child Natalie). He is also survived by his brother Henry Rempel of Winkler. He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Susanna Rempel of Winkler, 4 brothers and 4 sisters. Jacob was born Jan. 20, 1923 at Neuenburg, MB (close to Winkler). On May 20, 1951 he married the love of his life Esther Meisner. They moved to Steinbach in 1959 where Jake was employed at Penner Dodge Chrysler (which later became Penner Chevrolet) till his retirement in 1986. He also joined the Steinbach Fire Department shortly after they moved to Steinbach and served quite a number of those years as the Assistant Fire Chief. More recent joys that Jake and Esther shared were the 14 1/2 years they spent at Lilac Campground. This retreat place was a storehouse of memories for them and the family as many weekends and summer holiday times were spent at their campsite. Jake was a gentle, hardworking man, secure in his beliefs, honest and faithful, and he will be missed. The family would like to thank the wonderful staff and caregivers that helped to make his life better at the Rest Haven Nursing Home since April 2007. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach on Wednesday, March 18th at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, Steinbach, MB on Thursday, March 19th at 2:00 p.m. with a private family internment service at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB prior to the service.
