Peter was born September 8, 1957, in Paraguay. His family immigrated to Canada in 1963. They lived in Winnipeg for a while, then bought a farm in Pansy. Peter settled in Kleefeld, with his parents, till 1991. Then he moved in with his sister Maria and Ben and their family in Pansy till his passing. Peter lost his battle with cancer April 13, 2009 and went home to be with the Lord. He is survived by his sisters Maria Friesen (Ben), Annie Hildebrandt (Randy), his brothers Henry (Lorrian), John (Colleen), Issak (Marianne) and many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great nephews. He was predeceased by his father Peter Olfert in February 1991 and his mother Anna Olfert in June 1998. Peter enjoyed family get-togethers, hockey games, camping, horseback riding, bonfires, fishing, water tubing, and boating. Peter also enjoyed doing chores, feeding and watering the animals. When Peter wanted a bonfire, he would go into the bush to gather sticks and trees to make a fire. Then he would say “Mom, it’s ready, let’s have a bonfire.” Peter was very proud of his job at Kindale Industries, were he worked for many years, and he made some close friends. He was really proud of his cheque he received every week. It made his day. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach on Friday, April 17 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Saturday, April 18 at 10:30 a.m. also at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at Mennonite Memorial Gardens, Winnipeg.
