Henry Kroeker passed away at the Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach, Manitoba Wednesday evening April 29, 2009 following a short struggle with cancer. He will be remembered by his children Jac (Mechthild), Irene (Henry) Schmidt, John (Irene), Peter (Ruthild), Marlene (Earl) Klassen, Laurie (Glenn) Warkentin, Linda (Richard) Peters, twenty grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren. He was predeceased by his sons Frank in 1952, and Henry and daughter-in-law Lynda in 1971, as well as nine siblings. Our father Henry was born on April 17th 1918 in Neuendorf, Ukraine and lived there until early adulthood. During WW11 our parents fled to Germany then immigrated to Canada in 1948 with their two young sons, establishing their new home in the Steinbach area. Seven more children were born to Katherina and Henry over the next few years. He was a hard worker, whose first priority was to support his family and to provide existential security. Following his retirement dad found great enjoyment in his daily walks around Steinbach. Henry was always open to other people, trying to serve them in their needs. Lending a hand to his neighbours, tending the garden and the fruit trees gave him satisfaction, fulfilling his agricultural interest. Viewing will be held at the Steinbach Mennonite Church, 345 Loewen Blvd, Steinbach on Sunday, May 3, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held Monday, May 4 at 2:00 p.m. at the Steinbach Mennonite Church with interment at Heritage Cemetery.
