Peacefully on May 3, 2009, Joan passed away at The Deer Lodge Center at the age of 89 after a long battle with lung disease. She is survived by her three children, Ted (Janet), Tom (Karen) and Beth (Brian) Wilson; her grandchildren Heather, Mary, Stephen, Sherilyn, Michael, David (Natalie), Tommy and Robbie. Also left to mourn are her brother-in-law Lindsay Coulter and two sisters-in-law, Hazel McGregor and Ethel Forman. She is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews but was especially fond of Susan and Joanie. Joan was predeceased by her husband George in 1988, her older brother Bud in 1996 and her younger sister Allie in 1997. Joan was a long time member of the NDP and was a firm believer in their social democratic principles. In 1988 she received the “Lucielle Ono” award for her many years of devoted service to the party. She was also a long time member of St. James Anglican Church in Swan River. She was active in the church choir and also sang at the Senior Citizen’s center in Swan River. For many years she was active in the Festival committee. In her younger years, Joan enjoyed hockey, curling and bowling and always liked playing bridge. After moving to Winnipeg, Joan was a member at St. Mary Magdalene Anglican church. Joan was born on a farm at Roblin, Manitoba, the second child of Reginald Davidson Glover and Mabel Elizabeth Glover (nee Edwards). At the age of seven her family moved into town. Joan went on to graduate from normal school in Winnipeg, receiving her teaching certificate in 1938. She taught for ten years in the Gilbert Plains and Roblin areas. It was here that she met her future husband, George. She then taught school for 3 years in Winnipeg and on Aug. 7, 1951 she married George Albert Price. They farmed in Gilbert Plains for ten years. In 1959 Joan resumed her teaching career and in 1961 the family moved to a farm in the Birch River area. In 1964, the family moved to Swan River. While teaching, she completed her education degree at Brandon University in 1970. Joan taught school at Minitonas and Bowsman until her retirement in 1980. In 2001 Joan moved to Winnipeg to be closer to her family. Joan will be missed by all who knew her. A family graveside service will be held in Gilbert Plains at a later date.
