Obituary of Heinrich (Henry) Braun

Heinrich (Henry) Braun of Kleefeld, MB, passed away Friday, April 29, 2016 at the age of 70. Dad was born September 2, 1945 to Jacob and Susan Braun, the eldest of six children. He was predeceased by his father in 1985. Dad grew up in Barkfield, MB. Mom and Dad were married August 29, 1970 and lived in Winnipeg, MB, for the first number of years. With their two boys, they moved to Niverville, MB, and in 1978, relocated the family to a country property in Kleefeld, MB. Dad knew how to work and his jeans had the holes in the knees to prove it. His job was physically demanding and he put in a lot of hours. Throughout his career as a floor installer, he met many people and a lot of them remembered him. Many times when we were asked who our Dad was, we just had to say that he was a floor installer and people would tell us that “oh your Dad put in our living room or basement carpet or he replaced our kitchen vinyl.” Today, over half of our family is involved in the flooring industry. Dad enjoyed reading and he passed this on to a number of his children and grandchildren. Through the years, he collected National Geographic, Reader’s Digest, Childcraft, and many volumes of World Book Encyclopedia Year books. Dad also loved history, whether it was family, national, or world history. Dad had an interest in sports. When we were kids it was quite common for him to fall asleep watching a Sunday afternoon game (and he would wake up if we tried to change the channel). When he felt up to it, he thoroughly enjoyed attending local hockey games and on a few occasions took some of us and later grandsons with him. Dad really enjoyed homemade food and Mom is a really good cook. From homemade bread and butter, to rindt supp and delicious apple pie, Mom kept our Dad well fed. Our Dad loved ice cream, whether it was an ice cream cone, a bowl of French Vanilla or forking it right out of the pail, he rarely passed up an offer for it. Dad was an imperfect man. He was quick to admit his habit of procrastination, another thing that he’s passed on to some of us. Dad was a very private man. Not many were privy to the inner workings of his head and heart. Dad struggled much in the past number of years. A number of friends, family, and others tried to come alongside him during this time. There are a lot of unanswered questions surrounding his struggle, but now that he’s gone we hold on to two foundational truths: God is always good and Dad was always loved. We as his family deeply mourn his passing. He leaves to remember him: Margaret his wife of 45 years and six children along with their families: Jonathan (Virginia) Braun, Amy, Cole, Ryan, Andy, Shaina, Chenise, Leianah; Clare (Charlene) Braun, Nicole, Jessica, Trisha, Evan; Kevin (Betty) Braun, Alex, Jordan, Kaitlyn; Stella Braun; Sheila (Stan) Friesen, Owen, Reese, Kai; and Curtis Braun. The funeral service will be on Saturday, May 7, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at the New Bothwell Sommerfeld Church, New Bothwell, MB, with the burial to follow at Grunthal Cemetery, Grunthal, MB. Viewing prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Henry may be made to a charity of one's choice.
