On Thursday, May 2l, 2009 Henry passed away at the Rest Haven Nursing Home in Steinbach at the age of 85 years. Henry is lovingly remembered by his wife, Alvera, daughters, Marilyn and Deb (Brian), son, Garry (Dolores) and grandchildren Alex, Erin and Nickolas. He was predeceased by his son Randy in 1986. Henry was born to Jacob and Margaretha Funk in Randolph, Manitoba on November 10, 1923. On October 17, 1954 he married Alvera Barkman. Most of his working life was spent in the employ of Manitoba Hydro until his retirement at the age of 67. In the early years of his retirement he was involved in numerous volunteer activities. In 2002 he was diagnosed with Parkinson’s Disease. As the Parkinson’s progressed, his mobility decreased substantially, resulting in a move to a nursing home early in 2007. A viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr, Steinbach, on Monday, May 25, beginning at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. A viewing will also be held at the church prior to the service. The funeral service will be held at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover Street, Steinbach on Tuesday, May 26 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Heritage Cemetery. The family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to Dr. Krahn and the staff of the Rest Haven Nursing Home for their care and compassion these past two years.
