Obituary of Lily Friesen

Psalm 139 verse 5 You hem me in behind and before, and you lay your hand upon me. On June 2, 2016, Lily Friesen (nee Reimer) passed away at age 72, at Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB. She is survived by three children: Sheryl (Lloyd) Plett and children: Brady and Tyson; Lyndon (Karen) Friesen and children: Dana and Marcus; Jennifer (Camden) Rempel and children: Jameson and Caleb; and nine siblings. She was predeceased by her husband Edwin, son Ken, and two siblings. Lily, the 5th of 12 children, grew up in rural Manitoba. Her growing up years solidified two foundational principles she carried with her the balance of her life. Her pursuit of God and love for people. Her faith in God was developed through family instruction in her early years and significant testing during her adult years including the passing of her son Ken and her husband Edwin. Through those tests she reaffirmed her faith that God was always still in control. Her love for people around her imitated Christ’s love for us. She was deeply loyal (regardless of fault) to those around her, fiercely protective, humble, able to anticipate other people’s needs, and playful. As family we have all heard her numerous times, with her door closed at night, softly praying for her church, pastor, children, in-laws, siblings, grandchildren, friends and community. Thanks for being an amazing example for us. Lily’s passions in life were not of the self absorbed variety. She kept a low profile, but those that spent time with her knew she had numerous activities that she cared deeply about. Jesus Christ, her husband (Edwin Friesen - deceased in 2008), church, gardening, grass cutting, baking, cooking, reading, hosting, friends, and family - they all held profound meaning for her. Lily was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in December 2015. During the past six months many people have prayed, brought meals, visited and loved on her. Siblings also brought much time, support and hope. We’d like to thank Heartland Church for the tremendous sense of belonging and blessing Mom felt here. As well Dr Reimer and Dr Krahn and palliative nurse Debbie Krahn—these people were staples in our ever changing process of cancer. Thank you to Floor 1 Staff at Bethesda and also to Lily's two roommates whom God placed in her life for such a time as this. The memorial service will be held on Monday, June 6, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Heartland Community Church, 333 Main Street, Landmark, MB. There will be a private family interment prior to the service. If friends so desire, donations in memory of Lily may be made to the Ken R. Friesen Memorial Bursary, c/o Providence University College and Theological Seminary, 10 College Crescent, Otterburne, MB, R0A 1G0.
