Obituary of Peter P. Friesen

Our God, in his great wisdom saw fit to answer Dad’s prayers yet again. On Saturday May 30th Dad heard his name called and he answered. Dad was met by our Mom, Agatha, who predeceased by only two months, one day and four hours. Dad often spoke of how much more beautiful Heaven must be now with Mom there. We the family were around Dad’s hospital bed singing and praying as he was ushered into Heaven`s gates. Dad was a prayer warrior and daily brought each of his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren before God’s throne by name. Dad was seen on his knees beside his hospital bed only three days before his passing. Dad loved to read and this is very evident by the wear and tear of his Bible and Commentary. He loved traveling and fishing together with Mom and often with some of his children and their families or friends. His love for people especially the less fortunate was very visible by the countless trips with bread he and Mom made to Union Gospel Mission in Winnipeg, the thought of children going hungry in third world countries drove him to his knees and pocket book. Dad was also an avid gardener, working hard together with Mom in their greenhouse gave him great pleasure, oft times when he would see some of our attempts at gardening he would find it necessary to improve on things. Building was another of Dad’s passions and he built many wonderful pieces of furniture and toys for various members of the family as well as for their own home. We celebrated Dad’s 84th birthday together with his siblings on May 17th at the Fernwood Apts. There was much singing by children, grandchildren, and his siblings. He enjoyed every moment of it. Dad remained in Hospital after that until his passing. Dad was Baptised on the confession of his faith in the Chortitzer Mennonite Conference in the RM of Hanover in 1945. Dad and Mom started their married life on August 5th 1945. Dad you have been a real inspiration to us all, and have left us a wonderful legacy. You leave to mourn your children, Peter (Kathy), Abe (Linda), Jake (Marge), Niel (Becky), Martha (Willie) Giesbrecht, Dan( Judy), Lois (John) Wieler, son-in-law Klaas and Mika Giesbrecht, 26 grandchildren, 33 great-grandchildren, also four sisters, seven brothers and their families. You were predeceased by your loving wife Agatha in March of this year and your daughter Betty Giesbrecht in 2004, parents Peter W Friesen in 2000 and Katherine Friesen in 1975. Dad we love you, you have been a wonderful role model and taught us how to pray. Romans 12:12 was your motto that you lived by. Viewing will be held Tuesday, June 2, 7:00 pm with a devotional at 7:45 pm. Funeral service will be held at the Steinbach CMC Church on Wednesday, June 3, at 2:00pm. Interment was at Mitchell Memorial Gardens, Mitchell, MB. The family would like to thank Dr. Darren Reimer and the nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital for the care they gave our Dad. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice. … Rejoicing in hope, patient in tribulation, continuing steadfast in prayer. Romans 12:12
