Suddenly, yet peacefully, on Saturday, May 30, 2009 Peter G. Peters passed away at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach at the age of 79. He was born to Peter and Katharina Peters on Sept. 2, 1929 at Reichenbach near Mitchell, MB where they lived with his great-uncle Jacob Peters. He is survived by Sarah, two sons Peter Brian (Elaine) and Harold (Diane); one daughter Carol Martens (Dwayne); eight grandchildren Mike (Helen), Greg (Brenda), Keith (Lorilee), Matthew, Sara, Erin, Jordan and Jeremy; one great-granddaughter Emma; three sisters Tina (Bill) Kehler, Anne Funk and Agatha (Aron) Friesen; and one sister-in-law Nettie. He was predeceased by his parents when he was a young boy, his great-uncle Jacob Peters, his stepmother Susana, two brothers Abram and Cornelius and one brother-in-law Henry. He grew up on the family farm near Mitchell and was baptized on May 28, 1950 upon confession of his faith. He married Sarah Unrau on July 30, 1950. He spent his early years farming and later opened up his own cabinet business in Grunthal, MB. He enjoyed being outdoors hunting and fishing as well as going out for coffee with his friends. Pete always had a soft spot where his grandkids were concerned and was always free to offer hugs and kisses and to say “I love you” to his family. He more recently made his home at Menno Home for the Aged in Grunthal. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach on Wednesday, June 3 at 7 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. Funeral service will take place on Thursday, June 4 at 2 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel with interment to follow at the Randolph Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Menno Home Foundation, Box 280, Grunthal, MB, R0A 0R0.
