For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then we will see face to face. Now I know only in part; then I will know fully, even as I have been fully known. 1 Cor. 13:12 Peacefully on May 31, our father left the realm of what can be believed to enter that which can be known. Awesome ! Dad was born in the Ukraine (Grünfeld) to Jakob and Katharina Janzen (nee Kehler). His family fled to Germany in 1941 after his father and all the men in his village were forcibly taken into exile. It was during the turbulent war years that dad found faith in Christ and was subsequently baptized. Dad immigrated to Canada in 1951 and it was there that he met the love of his life Pauline Kaethler, and they were married in 1956. He was a founding member of both Springfield Heights and Douglas Mennonite churches and was actively involved in both. In 1964 he began his career as a life insurance agent, which he pursued with diligence and integrity well into his 80th year. Dad is lovingly remembered by his wife of 53 years Pauline and children Kurt, Richard (Leanne, grandchildren Jenna and Laura) and Ernest (grandchildren Krista, Ernest Jakob, Paul). Also surviving him are his sisters Mary Niebuhr and Katie Esau (Vancouver). A celebration of dad’s life will take place on June 10, 10:30 a.m. at Douglas Mennonite Church, 1517 Rothesay Street, Winnipeg, MB. Viewing will be held prior to the service. Interment will take place at Mennonite Memorial Gardens. We are deeply appreciative of the love and compassion that was shown to our father during his brief stay in the palliative care unit at St Boniface Hospital.
