Obituary of Eva Goossen

Eva Goossen was born on October 24, 1927, at Rosenort, Manitoba. Her parents were Gerhard and Margaret F. Goossen of Rosenort, MB. She died on June 6th, 2009 at Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB, reaching the age of 81 years. Her death was caused by accidental choking. She spent her growing up years in the Rosenort community and received her elementary education in the Greenbank School in Rosenort. At the tender age of 14, she realized her need of a personal Savior, committed her life to God, and received the gift of new birth. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on January 25, 1942. She remained in this faith until her end. In her late teens, it became evident that she would need medical attention to correct an emotional disorder. She was subjected to brain surgery, which was not entirely successful, leaving her with a mental handicap that she battled with the rest of her life. Due to this surgery, her physical problems were considerably aggravated, and caused her many struggles in daily living. We trust that God will bless all those who gave this kindly consideration when caring for her. Her parents committed her into the loving hands and hearts of a caring brotherhood, and many have devoted their time and talent to provide a sage and caring environment for her as needed. Through the years she has made certain recommitments to the Lord, as best she could, and we believe that our loving heavenly Father will, in His divine wisdom, will give her a proper reward. She had a good sense of humour and possessed a loving, benevolent attitude when in her more favourable moods. She did a lot of knitting for friends and family members when she was still capable and often greeted others in a cheerful, happy way. Her cheerful, happy moments, when she warmly greeted friends and visitors, will be missed by all those whose lives she touched. Needing more personal care in her later years, she moved in to Maplewood Manor on December 3, 1990, where the personnel lovingly cared for her the last eighteen and a half years. She fondly called the Manor “My Home”. Left to cherish fond memories are three sisters: Leah Goossen, Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, MB, Caroline Robson, High River, AB, and Elizabeth Pniowksy of Winnipeg, MB.; sister-in-law, Adina Isaac of Maplewood Manor, 13 nieces and nephews, numerous great-nieces and nephews, relatives and friends. Preceding her in death were her parents, one brother, one sister, and three brothers-in-law. As family, we would like to express our hearty appreciation to all those who cared for her in their homes, and especially the Maplewood staff during her final years at the Manor. The family The funeral service will be held Monday, June 8, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at the Rosenort Church of God in Christ, Mennonite with interment in the church cemetery.
