Obituary of Darrell Grant Braun

DDarrell Braun was born on June 9, 1960, as the firstborn to Menno and Lucy Braun of Landmark MB. He passed away at the Health Science Center on Friday morning, after collapsing metres from the finish line at the Manitoba Marathon the previous Sunday morning. Although receiving immediate medical care, he never regained consciousness. He leaves to mourn his sudden passing, his wife Jolyn, two daughters Rochelle and Jaclyn, two sons Alek and Dustin, his mother Lucy, his sister Crystal, his brothers Russell (Sarah) and Trevor (Sheila) plus nieces and nephews and all of Jolyn’s family as well as many friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his father, Menno Braun, in 1994. Darrell grew up and lived near Landmark all his life. From a young age, he was active and enjoyed the outdoors. Horses were a deep part of who he was, and he had a gift of relating with them and training them. Darrell farmed with his family, enjoying the hard work and often able to turn the stress into a hearty laugh. Darrell lived his life fully. He worked hard, played hard, laughed hard; he loved and cared with great compassion and followed whatever pursuits he chose with zealous determination. His love of running, developed in the later years, was one such example. He was strong and lean, well trained for each race he ran. Darrell was a man of strong values and cherished his family greatly. He knew how to love. This is what makes his passing so hard. Darrell often prayed for others, that their faith in God would increase. May ours do so. Although we are shocked by his sudden departure, and don’t want to live without him, we are consoled with the fact that he now knows Love completely, and he is running 5 minute miles on streets of gold. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Darrell Braun Memorial Fund. The funds will be used to build a relationship focus sports centre with Prairie Grove Chapel. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 30, 2009, at 10:00 am at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, Blumenort, MB, with interment at the Pansy Chapel Cemetery. Viewing will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel Monday, June 29, at 7:00 pm, with a devotional at 8:00 pm, and at the church prior to the service.
