Obituary of Jacob Penner

It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our Dad & Papa, Jake W. Penner on August 1, 2009 after a seven week battle with a stroke. He was 73 and 7 days old. Funeral services will be held at the Southland Community Church, 190 Hwy 52 W, Steinbach on Thursday, August 6, 2009 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing on Wednesday, August 5 at 7:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel. Dad was born on July 25, 1936 to Isaac & Aganetha Penner in Schonweise, near Osler, Saskatchewan. He mostly grew up in Saskatchewan with a few years in Burns Lake, BC. In 1956 he met Tina Peters in Saskatoon; they were married on February 16, 1957. They lived in Saskatoon until 1961 when they bought a house in Martensville, SK. They had three children who grew up in Martensville. In 1988 they moved to Grunthal, MB where they lived until mom passed away in 1999. He then moved to Steinbach, MB where he has lived ever since. Dad loved volunteering at many places including St. Boniface Hospital, Bethesda Hospital and the Steinbach MCC. He also enjoyed reading to seniors. Dad loved spending time with his family and we will miss his daily prayers for us. His love for Jesus was obvious in his life and service. He was predeceased by his loving wife Tina (nee Peters) in 1999, parents Isaac Penner in 1966 and Aganetha Penner (nee Wiens) in 1987, five siblings in infancy, three brothers, John in 1992, Cornie in 2005 and Abe in 2007. He leaves to mourn his passing three children Deb (Dale) Gerbrandt of Roseau River, MB, Roberta (Erwin) Hiebert of Grunthal, MB and Jason (Jenn) Penner of Steinbach, MB; seven grandchildren, Carmel (Pat) Thiessen, Dallas, Robyn Gerbrandt, Teshia, Korah-lynn, Corban Hiebert, and his special friend Joan Ward. He will also be missed by three sisters Mary (Bill) Martens, Annie (Henry) Wiebe, Elizabeth Fehr, four brothers, Dave (Lena), Frank (Ann), Pete (Margaret), Henry (Margaret); three sisters-in-law Mary, Betty and Mag; many nieces and nephews and two uncles and aunts. He will be sadly missed by his friends and family. If friends so desire donations may be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, 200 - 6 Donald Street; Wpg., MB R3L 0K6. Romans 8:18 For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.
