Elizabeth Marie MacDonald (Wiens) passed away on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 at her home. Ellie was born September 5, 1928 in Grunthal, Manitoba to parents John H. and Margaret Wiens. She was baptized upon her faith at the Elim Mennonite Church in Grunthal. At the age of twenty-one Ellie moved to Montreal to pursue her career at the Montreal Star Newspaper. It was here that she met and married Ronald MacDonald on July 8, 1965. They enjoyed a life of travel abroad as well as many trips to Manitoba. Ellie and Ronald moved back to Grunthal for their retirement to a small hobby farm where she fulfilled her dream of having a large garden, raising chickens and ducks and other pets. The last walk in Ellie’s life was to her garden to give vegetables to her niece. Ellie surrounded herself with friends and relatives. She loved to give dinner parties. A few weeks ago she travelled to northern British Columbia to visit friends and family. She was involved in the church ladies auxiliary where she made blankets and was also actively involved on the board of the Grunthal Thrift Store. She leaves to mourn Bernie Harder, a close friend; two sisters, Margaret and Mary (Willie) Heese; brother-in-law Neil Froese; sister-in-law Erna Wiebe; the MacDonald family in Scotland; and many nieces and nephews. Ellie was predeceased by her husband, Ronald; her brother, Frank and wife, Margaret; her brother, John and wife, Elizabeth. The viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach, MB on Sunday, September 27, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. with a devotional at 3:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at the Elim Mennonite Church in Grunthal, Manitoba on Monday, September 28 at 11:00 a.m. Interment in the Grunthal Cemetery.
