Mary (Leppky) Doerksen (nee Hiebert) of Steinbach passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 26, 2009, at Rest Haven Nursing Home at the age of 88 years. She will be lovingly remembered by all her children, Marion (Bert) Hiebert, John (Joanne) Leppky, Dave (Ruth) Leppky, Marjorie (Danny) Rempel, and Doug (Barb) Doerksen, 16 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, one brother and three sisters, and all their families and her “adopted” family, Rupert and Edna Forde. She was predeceased by her first husband John Leppky in 1953 and her second husband Abram Doerksen in 1992, her parents, four brothers, several young siblings, and numerous in-laws. Mom (Grandma) was raised and married in the Tourond, MB area. After John passed away in 1953, she moved to Niverville to raise her young family. As a young widow she learned to lean hard on the Lord. She married Abe in 1959 and they moved back to the farm. They moved to a new house in Steinbach in 1974 where she lived till her health dictated that she move somewhere she would receive the care she needed. Family, cooking, gardening, and quilting gave her great pleasure throughout her lifetime. A viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Wednesday, September 30, 2009 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held Thursday, October 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Emmanuel Evangelical Free Church, 360 MacKenzie Ave., Steinbach. Burial will be at Hiebert Heritage Cemetery in Niverville. The family would like to thank the staff at Rest Haven for the special care they provided to Mom (Grandma) for the last eight years.
