On September 28, 2009 Katharina (Tina) Bergen (nee Kauenhofen), of Steinbach passed away to her eternal home. She was born to Bernhard and Maria Kauenhofen on July 2, 1922. She lived her younger years in Gretna, Manitoba, before the family moved to MacGregor in the 1940’s. Being the oldest child in a family of 11, Tina had many responsibilities’ in the home; in addition she was employed in various homes as a housekeeper and at the Menno Home in Grunthal. Tina moved to Grunthal in the 60’s to assist her parents till their passing. She continued living in Grunthal till her marriage to Peter Bergen in 1984 when they moved to Morden. After 5 years of marriage Peter passed away and Tina stayed in Morden till the late 90’s. To be closer to family she moved to Steinbach, and in 2002 she moved to Fernwood Place where she lived till her passing. Tina is survived by three sisters, Nettie, Mary (Jake Braun), Susan (Ike Fehr), and four brothers John (Lenora), Ben (Susan), Peter (Linda), Henry (Helen) and two sisters-in-law Agatha Kauenhofen and Tina Kauenhofen and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by three brothers, Jake, David and Neil. The funeral service for Katharina “Tina” Kauenhofen Bergen will be held Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 11:00 a.m. at Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church with burial at Heritage Cemetery. Viewing will be held at the church prior to the service.
