In loving memory of Edward Dennis Schalla. Ed passed away suddenly on Monday, September 5, 2011 at the Health Sciences Centre Cancer Care. Ed was born in Tisdale, SK, the eldest son of Fred and Barbara (Blatz) Schalla. The family moved back to Steinbach shortly after where Ed finished school. He started his career in the drywall trade; then moved to the restaurant industry with his first restaurant in Stonewall, MB. He then bought A & W in Steinbach together with Dave and Shirley. He moved on to open Skylite Restaurant with his business partner Shirley Hein. Ed is survived by his brother Glen Schalla, sister Shirley (Dave) Funk and brother Gary (Jackie); nieces Shawna (Richard) Kroeker, Natasha (Tim Fry, Roxie (Jon) Poetker, Kelsey Schalla (Kevin) Wynn; as well as friend and business partner Shirley Hein and her children and grandchildren: Trevor (Karen) Stadnyk, Deiter, Katlyn, and Breana. The funeral service will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Friday, September 9, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with viewing prior to the service. Interment at Heritage Cemetery.
