Peacefully, at Bethesda Hospital on October 15, 2009, with his wife at his side, Dad went to be with his Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ at the age of 79 years. Left to cherish his memory are his wife Elma (Dueck), eleven children: Henry (Susan), Marie (Normand) Poirier, Helena (Jim) Hiebert, Linda (Cal) Regehr, Roselynn (Don) Koop, Peter (Rhonda), John (Christine), Jake, Diane (Art) Enns, Lorraine (Ed) Friesen, Raymond; 22 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and two sisters Agnes Friesen and Mary (Ben) Friesen. He was predeceased by his parents, four brothers, one sister, and one granddaughter Lisa in 2008. Dad was born October 6, 1930, to Jacob and Aganetha Doerksen in the Hanover Municipality, MB. On May 13, 1951 Dad was baptized upon the confession of his faith in Jesus Christ at the Niverville Chortitzer Mennonite Church. Dad and Mom were married on July 25, 1954, at the Randolph Chortitzer Mennonite Church. They were blessed with 55 years together. For the past number of years, Dad’s health was challenged with chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), which included many hospital stays. We want to thank the doctors, hospital, and homecare staff for the great care he received. Viewing will be held Sunday, October 18, at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach. The funeral service will be held Monday, October 19, at 2:00 p.m. at the Sommerfeld Mennonite Church, New Bothwell, MB, officiated by the New Hope Mennonite Church with interment at the Sommerfeld church cemetery.
