The family of Josef Bachmeier announces his peaceful passing at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach with his family at his side, on September 18, 2011, at the age of 87. Josef was born in Alexanderfeld, Ukraine on February 22, 1924. He was predeceased by his four sisters, and one daughter-in-law Lorraine Bachmeier. Left to mourn his passing is his wife of 60 years Renate, and their three sons; Axel (Lydia) of Winnipeg; Ron (Carol) of New Bothwell and Reinhard (Rose) of Kleefeld. Along with them he also leaves behind 10 grandchildren and their spouses, and nine great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Josef married his wife Renate on December 23, 1950 in Berlin, Germany. They immigrated to Canada in 1955 with their firstborn son, Axel. They settled in Winnipeg and later on bought a farm in Friedensfeld, Manitoba. He was baptized in 1992 upon confession of his faith at The Church of God in Steinbach, Manitoba on McKenzie Ave. Josef enjoyed farming and helping his son Ron, farm, He took great pride in maintaining his yard, especially his garden. He loved to take care of his watermelons, go fishing and spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. It brought him great joy when family members dropped by and joined him for a cup of coffee, or even just to say hi. He will be missed by us all. The funeral will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel in Steinbach on Thursday, September 22, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at Heritage Cemetery.
