Obituary of Judy Veronica Paler

Judy Paler (née Mitchell) died in the Ste. Anne Hospital in the evening on Friday, September 16, 2011. Predeceased by her father, Ormond, she leaves behind her sons Scott and Bryan Paler, brother Mark Mitchell and his wife Olga, her mother Vera Mitchell, sister Paula and, of course, her sweetheart of 22 years Michael Kirkpatrick. She is also greatly missed by two of her long-time friends, Margaret Rubin and Joan Ripley-Trudell. Judy was born in England in 1944 and travelled to Canada with her war-bride mother after the War. The family lived in various places throughout southern Saskatchewan, eventually settling in Moose Jaw. Her schooling and nurse training took place there, where she also met and married Gordon Paler. Later she moved to Winnipeg, living for many years in a house along the La Salle River in St. Norbert. She worked at the Provincial Veterinary Laboratory as a technologist dealing with animal virology. After her divorce, she met Michael and they lived contentedly together for 22 years. During that time they spent 10 most enjoyable summers boating on Lake Winnipeg and on Lake of the Woods. In 2000, they bought a lovely home in San Carlos in the State of Sonora, Mexico where they enjoyed each winter in the company of many friends, surrounded by the natural beauty of the Sierra Madre Mountains and the Sea of Cortez. They also had resided in Paradise Village near Ste. Anne, Manitoba for several years, where she lived until she was recently hospitalized. Michael and Judy's family wish to thank Dr. Chatel and the dedicated staff at Ste. Anne's Hospital who cared for her so compassionately. Thanks also to the various cheerful, highly professional, paramedic teams who took Judy to her radiation treatments at CancerCare in Winnipeg. And of course, thanks to all Judy's friends from Paradise Village, Ste. Anne, Winnipeg, Mexico and the USA, who visited, e-mailed and sent cards and flowers. According to her wishes, cremation has taken place and no services will be held. In lieu of flowers, a donation to CancerCare Manitoba, 1109 – 675 McDermot Ave.; Wpg., MB R3E 0V9 or the animal rescue shelter of your choice is encouraged.
