Obituary of Voleda Kliewer

Voleda Kliewer (nee Harder) June 25, 1939 -November 20, 2009 Voleda Kliewer passed away peacefully while in Steinbach, Manitoba on November 20th, 2009 at the age of 70 years. She was predeceased by her husband Edwin, parents Peter and Dora Harder, and brother Glen Harder. She will be greatly missed by her two children, Dean (Toni) Kliewer, and Mary Jane (Paul) Neustaedter, her grandchildren, Kaila and Lee Kliewer, and Max and Georgia Neustaedter, by brother Ray Harder and sister Debra Harder. She will also be missed by her stepmother Elsie Harder. Voleda was born on June 25, 1939 in Saskatoon, and grew up in Hepburn, SK. Raised in a family of six, her father, PJ Harder was a school teacher and principal, while her mother Dora, raised and cared for the four children: Voleda, Glen, Ray and Deb. Eventually the family moved from Hepburn to Saskatoon where Voleda attended university, developed her musical talents with Dr. Lyell Gustin, and worked as a librarian at the U of S. Her passion was the piano, and she developed an extraordinary talent as an accomplished pianist. She was the recipient of many musical awards, and went on to many years of teaching piano. In 1960 she married Ed Kliewer, also from Hepburn. Together they were involved in many aspects of church life and served in various missions and outreach areas that were close to their hearts. They were married for 42 years until the passing of Ed in 2002. During their marriage, they raised two children, Dean an Mary Jane. The family lived in Saskatoon, with the exception of two years in Prince Albert. The special friends they made during that time still remained dear to their hearts. Both children are married; Dean and Toni Kliewer live in Abbotsford BC, Paul and Mary Jane Neustaedter live in Steinbach, Manitoba. Voleda loved her four grandchildren and was so proud of all of them. Other passions in her life were sewing and quilting. Voleda attended Mont Nebo Evangelical Free Church and loved church life. After the passing of her husband Ed, Voleda continued to live at the cottage at Big Shell Lake. She also became passionate for Haggai Institute, a training centre for missionaries in Maui, Hawaii. She recently volunteered for two sessions at the training centre in Maui. Every day, she woke up at 5:30 a.m. to read from her favourite book, the Bible. She served the Lord her entire life, and today is rejoicing in heaven with her Creator. The viewing will be held on Monday November 23, at 7:00 p.m. at Forest Grove Community Church, Saskatoon. A graveside service will take place at the Hepburn Cemetery on Tuesday, November 24, at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Celebration of Life Memorial service at 2:00 p.m. at Forest Grove Community Church. Officiating Pastor will be Bill Klumpenhower. Funeral arrangements made by Birchwood Funeral Home, Steinbach, MB. In lieu of flowers, donations made to Haggai Institute will be gratefully appreciated.
