Peacefully on Thursday, December 17, 2009 at the St. Boniface Hospital after a short battle with cancer, our beloved Mother and Grandmother, Helen Reimer (nee Toews) passed into the hands of her Lord at the age of 82. Helen is predeceased by her loving husband of 60 years, Victor Reimer. She is survived by her children Shannon (Ron) Maltby of Winnipeg; Valeria (Lonnie) Kruger of Ramsey, Minnesota and Bradley (Deb) Reimer of Fannystelle. She leaves behind six grandchildren: Aaron Kruger of Becker, Minnesota; Shane Maltby of Winnipeg; Drew Maltby of Adelaide Australia; Adam Reimer of Winnipeg; Anna Reimer of Morden and Elyse Reimer of Fannystelle. She also leaves behind her sister Marion Reimer of Winnipeg; sisters- in- law Lorna Ross of Toronto; Tina (Joe) Semenick of Pine River; Marion Nightengale of Winnipeg and brothers-in-law Jake Janzen of Winnipeg and Bernie Doerksen of Steinbach. She is predeceased by her sister Dorothy Janzen; brother Ed Toews; sisters-in-law Evelyn Doerksen; Helen Toews; brothers-in-law Mort Ross and Ed Nightengale and niece Cheryl Toews. She will be fondly remembered by numerous nieces and nephews who were dear to her. Helen was born November 2, 1927 in Altona, Manitoba. She lived in North Bay, Ont.; Hamilton, Ont. and Windsor, Ont. before retiring to Winnipeg in 1987. Mom was a stay at home mom with an annual ritual of working the scales at Manitoba Sugar with her sister, Marion, during sugar beet harvest. When the family moved to Ontario she helped with the family business and worked at a variety of other occupations to help sustain the family. She enjoyed her retirement years in Winnipeg where she was close to family and friends. The family would like to thank all those involved at St. Boniface Hospital for their gracious and tender care of Mom in her last days. There will be a private family funeral with a memorial service planned for both our parents at a later date.
