Heinrich (Harry) Harder, age 86, of Steinbach, MB, formerly of Kleefeld, MB, went home to be with his Lord on Wednesday, May 2, 2018 at St. Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, MB. He was a dearly loved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and brother.

He is survived by his beloved wife Anne of 63 years; his daughter Valerie Zacharias and husband Ken, their children: Nathan and Janet (Hannah, Naomi, Alicia, Evan, Adam, and Caleb), Travis and Rosey (Zipporah and Moises), Taralin Wiebe and Dallas (Carter, Logan, and Brady), Jared and Dwylla (Risa, Owen, Levi, and Joel); his son Gerald; his son Tim and his children: Joshua, Matt and Tamara (their daughter Emma), Lucas and Jacquie; and his son Jason. He is also survived by his sisters Kay, Ann Gawley, and Lena Bartel and husband Art, his sister-in-law Anne, and his brother Ed and wife Lena.

He is predeceased by his parents Henry K. and Katherina (Sawatzky) Harder, his sister Aggie Enns and husband Jim, his sister Susan Heinrichs and husband Walter, his sister Maria, his brother-in-law Charlie Gawley, and his brother Peter.

Harry was born in the R.M. of Hanover, the sixth of nine children. His parents farmed near Kleefeld, MB where Harry went to school until Grade 9. He then continued his education by completing Grade 10 by correspondence.
In his younger years Harry worked on the farm and in Ontario. After his marriage he was employed at Modern Dairies Creamery in Winnipeg for two years. He then joined his brother-in-law, and later, his brother, working in carpentry for many years. When he and Anne moved to Kleefeld, he also took up beekeeping.
Music was Harry’s passion. He played guitar and sang in the Union Gospel Mission Trio for 31 years, and then played and sang in retirement homes throughout south-east Manitoba for years during his own retirement. He also spent 13 winters volunteering as a carpenter at a retirement village for SIM missionaries in Sebring, Florida.

Harry loved people and was a wise, practical man with a thirst for knowledge on many topics. He blessed his family and friends with his kindness, generosity, and servant attitude. Above all, he loved the Lord, and while he will be dearly missed, we rejoice to know that he is now seeing his Saviour face to face.

We would like to thank the medical staff of Steinbach Bethesda Hospital and St. Boniface Hospital. We also thank our family, church family, and friends for all their prayers and support.

Funeral service will be held on Friday, May 11, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB with viewing prior to the service.

Burial will take place at Kleefeld E.M.C.
