Obituary of Lena Froese

LENA FROESE (nee: Funk) It pleased our heavenly Father to take our dear wife, mom and grandma from Riverview Health Centre to His heavenly HOME on December 26, 2009 at the age of 76. Lena was born in Cantour, SK to Peter and Sadie Funk on January 27, 1933. We are so blessed because of our loved one's peace, courage and trust in God throughout her cancer journey. Lena spent her childhood and single days in BC. She graduated from Bethel Bible Institute in Abbotsford, BC in 1954 and was involved in a variety of ministries during these years. She met Jake Froese in the spring of 1960 in Winnipeg and they were united in marriage at the West Abbotsford Mennonite Church on December 30, 1960. After residing in Winnipeg for a few months, she and Jake moved south of Swift Current, SK where she began serving alongside her husband as a pastor's wife at Blumenhof Gospel Church. It was while there that she gave birth to her 3 sons. Lena further stood faithfully with her husband during the years of service in Wynyard, SK at Wynyard Gospel Church and in Winnipeg at Morrow Gospel Church, Back to the Bible and Christian Fellowship Chapel. As well, she served in her own way of encouragement, hospitality, and speaking to ladies groups. Her children and grandchildren were very important to her. She will be cherished in memory by: her husband Jake of almost 49 years; Daryle and Carol (Tara, Amy, Rachel, Joel, Jessica) of Pinawa; Randy and Sandra (Graham, Dallas, Carlton, Mattea, Jania) of Landmark; Duane and Jennifer (Amanda, Tiffany) of Landmark. Lena is also lovingly remembered by her siblings ~ Harvey and Lorraine Funk; Leona and John Duduman; Ben and Marlene Funk; Len and Sharon Funk (all of BC); step-mother, Kay Funk of Steinbach; as well as her Uncle Pete and Aunt Anne Neufeld of Winnipeg. She is also remembered by her Froese in-laws in MB, plus many nieces and nephews, and a host of friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Peter and Sadie (Braun) Funk and her special (needs) sister Olga. A private family burial took place on December 31, 2009. The memorial service will take place at North Kildonan Mennonite Brethren Church, 1315 Gateway Rd. (at Springfield Rd.) on Monday, January 18, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. Lena requested that an opportunity for memorial gifts to be given to Union Gospel Mission's new Women's Addiction Center on Archibald Street in Winnipeg. We as a family give thanks for the host of folk who prayed and encouraged us through this journey.
