Jessie Penner was born to Aron and Maria Goossen Penner on September 14, 1926 in Ste. Anne, Manitoba. She passed away on October 5, 2011 at her residence in Steinbach, MB. This fulfilled her desire to be cared for by her nieces and nephews and to spend her last days at home. She had just passed her 85th birthday. She was baptized into the Church of God in Christ at Greenland, MB in her teenage years. In the sunset of her life, she sought to reconnect with the faith of her younger years. Aunt Jess was a much loved aunt to her many nieces and nephews who have fond memories of trips taken with her, and of delicious suppers she made for us. She loved her roses, her dogs, and crocheting. She also loved her nursing career. She took her training at St Boniface Hospital, Winnipeg, later moving to Lansing, Michigan where she worked for over 34 years. Her speciality was intensive care nursing until later she changed to working on the I.V. Team. Upon retirement from nursing, she volunteered with Meals on Wheels. Feeling a strong tug to return home to be close to family, she took up residence in Steinbach about 10 years ago. Precious memories are shared by sisters; Nellie Toews, of Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, Evelyn Fricke of Grafton, North Dakota, brothers: Waldon Penner and wife Mildred of Berwick, Nova Scotia, Abe Penner and wife Carrie of Cartwright, MB, sisters-in-law Agnes Penner and Pauline Penner. She was predeceased by her parents, three brothers and six sisters. Special thanks to the nieces and nephews for their care, and to the Palliative Care Program of South Eastman Health. A funeral service for Jessie will take place Saturday, October 8, at 10:30 a.m. at the Steinbach Church of God in Christ, Mennonite. Public viewing will take place prior to the service. She will be buried at the Heritage Cemetery in Steinbach after the service.
