Obituary of Gloria Joan Reimer

Gloria Joan Reimer passed away peacefully, at home, with her family by her side on January 27, 2010 at the age of 37 years and 10 months, after a 13 month battle with brain lymphoma. Even though her physical health failed, her emotional, mental and spiritual health was incredible. She had peace and we know that she was welcomed by Jesus, to her heavenly home. Gloria was born in Steinbach, Manitoba on March 27, 1972 to Raymond and Lillian Reimer. Gloria loved children and babies. Prior to her cancer diagnosis, she was working at completing a certificate in Early Childhood Education. She volunteered many hours with children in the church nursery and was a favourite baby-holder. She especially loved her nieces and nephews. She made crafts with them, played games with them, gave them treats and joined in pajama parties. They will miss her dearly. We are thankful for memories we made this last year. A very special memory is our weekend together at a resort to celebrate Christmas. Gloria shared a room with her nieces, enjoyed swimming with us and participated fully. Two weeks later, just before Christmas, she was unable to walk and a spinal cord tumor was discovered. On December 30th, less than one month ago, doctors told Gloria that they would no longer be able to treat the cancer. They suggested that she only had a couple of months to live and that she would never walk again. Praise the Lord, she did walk again, right up until 4 days before she passed away. We were richly blessed to spend the last few days all together, loving, serving and caring for her in her home. We are so grateful for the generous support of the palliative care and home care team. From Gloria’s prayer journal, “I know that your hands must be working in me completely because I am just so relaxed. It is unexplainable to me, you have me at complete peace. The more I lean on you and the more I trust in you, the more peace you give me. I just never want this amazing peace from you to leave me Jesus.” The peace that she demonstrated is the peace that we will carry with us, until we meet again! She is survived by her parents, Raymond and Lillian Reimer; brother Jeff and Marilyn and their children Kaitlin, Bobbi-Jo, Nolan; brother Curtis and Veronica and their children Amber, Alayna, Josiah, Anessa, Simeon; brother Keon and Christal and their children Madeline, Owen, Nadine, Quentin; ‘adopted’ brother Sacha Kaboha and his fiancée Ashley Moore; grandmother Violet (Reimer) Wall (Henry Wall); many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. She was predeceased by her paternal grandparents Erwin P. and Elizabeth Reimer; maternal grandfather Harvey S. Reimer. The viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach on Sunday, January 31, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Southland Community Church, Hwy 52 W, Steinbach on Monday February 1, 2010 at 11:00 a.m. with interment at Heritage Cemetery. Donations may be made to Southland Community Church (Hope and Support Ministry), Box 219, Steinbach, Manitoba R5G 1M2.
