Obituary of Mary Goertzen

Mary Goertzen, went to be with her Lord and Savior on February 25, 2010 at the age of 92 at Rest Haven Nursing Home, Steinbach, MB. She was born on June 3rd, 1917 to Johan F. and Helena Goertzen, in Silberfeld, MB. Remaining to cherish her memories are two sisters Susie (Abe) Bergen and Agatha Smith; one brother Peter (Mary) Goertzen; three sisters-in-law Lena, Anne and Evelyn Goetzen. She will also be remembered by her many nieces, nephews and the Peter Wohlgemuth family. Mary was predeceased by her parents, four sisters Helen Mann, Tina Falk, Betty Schultz and Anna Goertzen; four brothers Jacob, Abram, David and Johnny Goertzen; two sisters-in-law Tina (Mrs. Jacob) Goertzen and Susie (Mrs. Peter) Goertzen; two brothers-in-law Peter Falk and Henry Schultz. Mary did house keeping at various places from the age of 13 to 17, sometimes working for room and board, but mostly for a small amount of money. At the age of 17 she went to work for the Peter Wohlgemuth family and lived there for over 32 years. She also worked in the kitchen at the Menno Home in Grunthal, and till retirement at Donwood Manor as a Supervisor. The family would like to thank Dr. Krahn and the staff at Rest Haven and Cedarwood for their wonderful care and compassion for Mary. The funeral service will be at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Dr., Steinbach on Thursday, March 4, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. with viewing prior to the service. Interment at Heritage Cemetery. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Haven Group (for Rest Haven Nursing Home, 177 Wood Haven, Steinbach, MB, R5G 1K7.
