Obituary of Clara Goossen

Our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother Clara Rempel Goossen was born to Jacob and Elizabeth Loewen Rempel on August 23, 1921, at Rosenort, Manitoba. As the fourth child in a family of 11, she enjoyed her growing up years on the family farm. They were not rich in this world’s goods, but they learned to accept life as it came without complaining and to enjoy the simple blessings. She received her education in the local rural school. At the age of eighteen she became ill with rheumatic fever which left her with a damaged heart. Although her body was weakened, she nevertheless took on her responsibilities without any self-pity. Mom was one of the 40 young people who were converted to the Lord and baptized into the Church of God in Christ during the summer revivals at the Rosenort congregation in 1940. She embraced this faith till the end. She was joined in marriage to Ben Goossen on May 28, 1944 in a loving union that lasted 65 years. Our father passed away on February 28, 2010. The first winter of their marriage was spent in a logging camp in Dryden, Ontario where Dad worked as a C.O. and Mom did the cooking. A few years later they built a house and settled down on a farm in the Rosenort community where they lived all their life. When Dad was ordained to the deaconry, Mom stood by in support, accompanying him to different areas of service; to Belize, India and several congregations in need of help and support. Mom enjoyed caring for her six children. She faithfully guided her household by her motherly example. Her gentle way of nursing our hurts and pains will be our treasured memory. She also opened her heart and home to various mentally and physically challenged people. She became adept at preparing meals on short notice with substituted ingredients. She was endeared to many by her uncomplaining personality and plain speech. Mom enjoyed giving. Many of her visitors would leave with a little token of her generosity. She enjoyed the simple things in life. Her ready smile and easy going approach to life will be missed. She dearly loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and was concerned for their salvation. She quietly passed away on October 22, 2011 in the home of her daughter Eileen and husband Isaac where she spent the last 8 months of her life. Those left with special memories are one daughter, Eileen and husband Isaac Peters, Rosenort, MB; four sons: Lloyd and Anita, Greensburg, KS, Leonard and Bertha Ulysses, KS, Alvin and Sylvia, Leroy and Maxine, Rosenort MB, 22 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren. Also surviving her are one brother: Bill and Janet Rempel; two sisters: Annie and husband Harold Goossen and Caroline and husband Herbert Goossen, three sisters-in-law, Dorothy Rempel, Edna Rempel and Marina Rempel. She was predeceased by her husband, one son, two grandchildren, her parents, five brothers and two sisters. As the family we feel very grateful to our sister Eileen and husband Isaac for opening up their home and giving Mom such loving care, especially during the last few weeks. Also a big thanks to the Home Care staff for their loving services. Viewing will be held at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in Rosenort, MB on Mondayevening, October 24. The funeral service will be held at the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite, in Rosenort, MB on Tuesday, October 25 at 2:00 p.m. with interment at the church cemetery.
