Obituary of Evelina Margaret Reimer

After suffering a major heart attack earlier in the week, Evelina was taken home to rest, early in the morning on Friday, October 28, 2011, at the St. Boniface General Hospital. She was born in Steinbach, Manitoba on June 8, 1930. She was married to Edward Reimer on September 27, 1956. She was predeceased by a still-born daughter, Alana Margaret; parents, George K. and Margaret Reimer, step-mother Mary; brothers Harold and Alvin, and niece Barbara Ruth Reimer. She is survived by her husband, Edward, two sisters-in-law, two nieces and two nephews and their families. Evelina was a multi-talented woman. She worked at a number of different jobs over the years, including jewelry store clerk, long distance telephone operator, nurse’s aide, postal clerk, Revenue Canada, assessment clerk, yearbook production, doctor’s office receptionist , and personal secretary to her husband - all performed with conscientious precision , and modest charm. She performed on a number of musical instruments, sang in many choirs, and was in demand as a soloist, wherever study and work took us. She loved to travel, and was a great traveling companion for her husband and the many friends we travelled with over the years. She loved all things beautiful: a colourful sunset across the lake; a field of waving grain; brilliant fall foliage; the infinite variability of fluffy clouds; flowers in fields, gardens and vases; perfectly matched clothes; personal integrity; genuine interpersonal relationships; pure harmony in music and in all other aspects of the human experience. Her sharp wit, infectious laughter, the twinkle in her eyes, and her tender perceptiveness and sensitivity enriched the lives of her many close friends. Reading and memorization of The Bible and intercessory prayer were always an important part of her life. She prayed daily, for years, for friends who were experiencing problems, and rejoiced when she heard that good things were happening in their lives. Experiences of pain in her own life - physical, emotional, and spiritual - gave her an exceptional capacity to walk alongside friends who were suffering pain or loss. She was very grateful for the excellent care she received at the St. Boniface General Hospital during her brief sojourn there. A memorial service for Evelina Reimer will be held Tuesday, November 1 at 2:00 p.m. at Fort Garry Evangelical Mennonite Church, 602 Pasadena Avenue, Winnipeg. Interment and last respects will take place prior to the service on Tuesday, 10:00 a.m. at Steinbach Memorial Cemetery, McKenzie Avenue and Highway 12 South. Family and friends welcome.
