Obituary of Edwardine (Edie) Donnelly

It is with greatest of sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our Mother, Grandmother and Sister at the age of 84. She is survived by her sons, Wayne (Korene) and Neal (Irene), grandchildren Jonelle, Brigette, Brendan and Shaylene, sisters Alexina Nault, Terri Beach, Gertie Habinski, Cyria Lawn (Peter) and brother Richard Poitras (Cathy), brothers-in-law Joe Zigarlick, Fran Donnelly (Lil) and Jim Donnelly (Audrey) and sister-in-law Alanna Goodfellow (Gus) and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Joe in 1974 and her parents Arthur and Eliza, siblings Eugène, Marie Anne, Ray, Toni, Gérard, and Noël. Mémère was born and raised in Woodridge, MB and would tell us many stories of her early life in the country. In her teen years, she moved to St. Boniface where she worked at St. Boniface Hospital and Centre Taché with some of her sisters and friends. She later worked for the Hudson Bay Company in Atikokan and at a war plant in Southern Ontario during the Second World War. She later spent time working in Churchill where she was crowned the Fur Queen of the North in 1949 and later the Queen of the Trappers Festival in The Pas before moving to the Sioux Lookout, ON area to work as a cook on the CN B&B gang at Pelican, ON where she met and later married her husband Joe in 1955. Mémère was a kind and gentle soul who would do anything for anyone and who always loved a good laugh. She wore out many decks of cards playing solitaire and many bingo dabbers playing bingo in Sioux Lookout and Sunday nights at the Woodridge Hall and Kinsmen Bingo on Saturdays. She was known for cooking up a storm and her delicious family meals. We will miss her laugh, her smile and her kind heart tremendously. Cremation has taken place and a celebration of her life will be held at the Woodridge Hall on Saturday, May 22nd from 1:00 to 4:00 p.m. A private interment will take place at a later date. “Mémère, you touched our lives and your memory will live on within our hearts forever”
