Obituary of Toby Heinrichs

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather and great-grandfather Toby Heinrichs of Steinbach on April 16, 2010. Toby was predeceased by his beloved wife, Alice on November 23, 2007. They shared life's joys and sorrows for 58 years. This union was blessed with three daughters and one son. Left to cherish his memory are, daughter Shirley (Ray) Fast, grandsons, Gregory, great-grandson Robbie, and Jarett (Janell), great grandsons Slade and Kane; daughter Carol (Gabor) Bodor, grandchildren Tara (Jeff) Bradacs and Jordan; daughter Marni Pauls, grandchildren Dallas and Lindsay Rae; son Ken (Cheryl) Heinrichs, grandchildren Dustin (Melissa), Kyle (Katryna) and Kelsey. Toby was born in Gretna, MB, and spent his early years in Altona, working at the family owned Heinrichs Garage. He was baptized on May 26, 1947 at the Bergthaler Mennonite Church in Altona. It was during this time that Dad met the love of his life and soul-mate Alice and got married December 18, 1949. They resided in Steinbach for the last 30 years. Mom and Dad loved to travel and devoted their lives to their children and grandchildren. Dad was active in the EMC church serving as a Sunday School teacher and was on numerous boards. His life was a reflection of his strong faith in God. We praise God for the years that we were given with Dad and rejoice that he has been reunited with Mom and will be spending an eternity with his Father in heaven. Viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on Wednesday, April 21 at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m. and at the church prior to the service. A celebration of Toby's life will take place Thursday, April 22 at 2:00 p.m. at the Evangelical Mennonite Church, 422 Main Street, Steinbach with interment at Heritage Cemetery. The family would like to thank all who cared for Dad during the last few years. We appreciate the compassion of the Nurses, Palliative Care Team and Health Care Aides. The friends and relatives who dropped in for a visit or phoned, and those who brought treats, flowers and meals were also much appreciated. You blessed Dad and us with your many acts of kindness. We are also grateful for all the prayers and expressions of sympathy. If friends so desire donations may be made to Siloam Mission, 300 Princess St. Winnipeg, MB, R3B 1M3 or to Mennonite Central Committee, 134 Plaza Drive, Winnipeg, MB, R3T 5K9
