Obituary of Elsie Lily Pasquill

The family of Elsie Pasquill is saddened to announce her death, which occurred on April 19, 2010, at the age of 90 years. Elsie was born in Inwood, Manitoba, and moved to Winnipeg with her family at age 6. As the only girl, Elsie was the apple of her father's eye, and was doted on by her 4 brothers. Her mother was a trained tailor, and Elsie was always the best-dressed girl in school She retained her fashion sense her entire life. Elsie was an accomplished pianist, and as a young woman was the organist at the Swedish Lutheran Church. She also accompanied many talented violinists in concert and competition. She worked in a clerical position for the Federal government after she graduated from Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. At the beginning of WW II, Elsie met her soldier, Geoffrey Pasquill, and waited faithfully for him to return after he was taken prisoner at Dieppe. Elsie and Geoff were married on June 10, 1944. They moved to Neepawa where Geoff eventually became to Chief of Police, and where they raised their family. While her children were small, Elsie remained at home to care for them, following her mother's example by expertly making their clothes. She helped Geoff in the garden and with raising the chickens, and even though she was terrified of the bees, bravely helped collect the honey from the beehives. After her children were all in school, Elsie again returned to the workforce, working variously at Kerr's store, Simpson-Sears, The Neepawa Press and Murray's Garage. Elsie and Geoff moved to Winnipeg in 1970. Elsie worked at the Manitoba Securities Commission until her retirement. After the death of her husband, Elsie lived independently in Winnipeg, also at different times with her daughters Valerie and Barbara in Ste. Anne. Her last 3 years were spent at Catherine Place, where she made many new friends, and enjoyed the benefits of supportive living. Elsie was predeceased by her husband Geoff, her parents Berger and Maline Korstrom, and her four brothers Ronald, Fred, Arnold and Harvey Korstrom. She was most recently sadly predeceased by her daughter Valerie Menec on February 16, 2010. Elsie is survived by her daughters, Jackie Snider (Bonar) of Neepawa, Barbara Crosby of Ste. Anne, grandchildren Dean Snider (Cathy), Geoff Menec (Melanie) and Andrea Menec, great-grandchildren Ariel, Julie, Judas, Sasha and Sarah Snider, Harrison and Jesse Menec, Justin Menec, and son-in-law Larry Menec. She will also be missed by her many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, cousins, and friends. The family wishes to thank the staff of St. Boniface Hospital Palliative Care Unit for making Elsie's last few weeks comfortable and pleasant, her home care and palliative care workers, and the staff at Catherine Place. A memorial service will be held Friday, June 18, 2010, at 2:00 p.m. at St. James Anglican Church, Neepawa. Reception to follow in the church basement. Private interment of ashes will take place prior to the service, along with the interment of ashes of her daughter Valerie and re-interment of ashes of her husband Geoff. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to the palliative care unit of St. Boniface Hospital, or to a charity of your choice. “It is not how long the flower blooms, but how beautifully."
