Obituary of Abraham P Goossen
Abraham P. Goossen was born on August 25, 1920 to Peter K. and Marie Penner Goossen at Rosenort, Manitoba. He peacefully passed into eternity June 4, 2010 at the Maplewood Manor, Steinbach, Manitoba.
Except for the last ten years spent in the Maplewood Manor, he spent his entire life in the Rosenort, Manitoba community. He grew to manhood on the family farm. At the age of thirteen he surrendered his life to the Lord and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite on July 18, 1934
On April 3rd 1949, he was joined in marriage to Martha Toews at Montezuma, Kansas. They enjoyed each other’s companionship for fifty-five years, until mother was taken from his side on Nov 20, 2004. Five children were born to this union. They established their home in Rosenort and lived there until mom’s failing health required their move to Maplewood Manor.
Dad was a man of integrity. He was kind, gentle, and quiet in all his doings. He was a faithful, loving, and patient father to us children. His example, and what he taught us, will continue to inspire and help us as long as we live.
He spent fifty years serving the community from his machine and electric repair shop. He did not easily give up on a challenge to fix something, and repairing the so-called impossible was his delight. Through business, he made many acquaintances, which were precious and meaningful to him. He was much more interested in a job well done than in a dollar earned.
He leaves to mourn, his children: Joyce (Dalton Duerksen), Rosenort, Robert (Joanne), Altona, Charles (Audrey), NS, Gordon (Laurel), Altona, Nadine (Ike Reimer), Lakeville, NS, twenty grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren plus many relatives, and friends.
He was predeceased by his wife, parents, two grandchildren, nine brothers, and two sisters.
Viewing will be Monday, June 7, at 7:00 pm at the Rosenort Church of God in Christ Mennonite. The funeral will be held in the Rosenort Church of God in Christ Mennonite on June 8, 2010, 10:30 am followed by interment in the church cemetery.
The family would like to thank everyone who visited dad, especially in the lonely years after mom’s passing . Also, a special thank-you also to the Maplewood Manor staff who so lovingly cared for him.
