Obituary of Leonard David Klippenstein

On Wednesday, the 25th July 2007, in the early afternoon, Dad went peacefully to be with the Lord he loved and served. Dad faced his 14-year battle with cancer very bravely and courageously. Despite his physical pain, he was very peaceful when the Lord led him gently home to glory. Dad had a heart for the gospel and missions. He served for many years on the mission board of the CMC conference until ill health caused him to retire. He was an active member of the Mitchell CMC Church since it’s inception. Dad was born in the Otterburne area on October 29th, 1924. He grew up on the family farm in Randolph. Leonard and Neta were married on September 30th, 1953. Dad and Mom farmed in Randolph all their lives until they retired. They then lived on a lovely country property in the Randolph area until the end of 1999 when they moved to Steinbach. Dad was predeceased by his parents, David Goertsen Klippenstein and Susanna Leppky Klippenstein. Mom and Dad’s marriage was blessed by two sons and three daughters. Leonard leaves behind his beloved life partner, Neta. He is survived by Shirley (Geoff) Townsend of Gjirokaster, Albania; Rose (John/Jack) Friesen of Steinbach; Ken (Helen) Klippenstein of Steinbach; Karen (Cornell) Friesen of Steinbach and Andrew (Rachel) Klippenstein of Moosomin, Sask. He is also survived by nine grandchildren, their spouses and seven great-grandchildren. The family wishes to thank Dr. Krahn, the Cancer Care Clinic and the nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital in Steinbach for their loving and compassionate care of Dad during his long-term illness. We would also like to thank all those who have called, visited, comforted, prayed for Leonard and for the family through many varied trials. The viewing will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, at 7:00 PM on Tuesday, July 31st, followed by a devotional. The celebration service of the homegoing of our husband, Dad, grandfather and great-grandfather will take place on Wednesday, August 1st, at 2:00 PM at the Steinbach CMC Church, 479 Hanover Street, with fellowship lunch to follow after internment at the Mitchell CMC Church cemetery.
