Obituary of Anna Petrash

At the age of 92 years, Anna Petrash passed away peacefully surrounded by her loving family at the Vita District Hospital on Sunday evening February 20, 2000. She is survived by her children Marie Moskaliuk, Matt Petrash and Lena, Walter Petrash and Corky, John Petrash and Pearl, Olga Chorney and Basil, Orest Petrash and Margaret, and her daughter-in-law Julie Petrash, 23 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her parents, Fedor and Paraska Happychuk, her husband Joseph, her sister Marie Sokoliuk, her brothers John, Bill, Steve and Fedora Happychuk. Sons Bill and Steve Petrash, daughter-in-law Sonia Petrash and son-in-law William Moskaliuk. Anna Petrash was born on March 30, 1907 in Arbakka, Manitoba. Throughout her life she was very active and a life long member of the Assencion of our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sundown, Manitoba and also the Ukrainian Catholic Women’s League. Anne will be remembered as a kind, loving, gentle and compassionate woman. She has always thought of others before herself. Her family was her greatest love and joy especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She loved to travel, she enjoyed gardening, reading and teaching anyone who was interested in learning the art of perogy making and Ukrainian tradition. She has left behind a wonderful and rich legacy to her family. A cluster of precious memories sprayed with a million tears Wishing God had spared you if only for a few more years, You left a special memory and a sorrow too great to hold. To us who loved and lost you, your memory will never grow old. Thanks for the years we had. Thanks for the memories we shared. No one heard the fast steps of the angels drawing near Who took from Earth to Heaven the one we loved so dear, to take your place among them. We just need to think of you and we’ll feel your love’s embrace. Prayers will be held on Wednesday, February 23 at 7:30 p.m. at the Birchwood Funeral Chapel at 150 Penfeld Dr. in Steinbach, Manitoba. Deacon Leon Twerdun officiating. The Divine Liturgy will be held on Thursday, February 24 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ukrainian Catholic Church in Sundown, Manitoba. Father Ihor Royik and Deacon Leon Twerdun officiating. Interment to follow at the Parish Cemetery. Pallbearers for the service are Peter Petrash, Randy Petrash, Ken Petrash, Allan Moskaliuk, Nelson Petrash and Orest Storozul. Honorary Pallbearers: Orest Petrash, Matt Petrash, Walter Petrash, John Petrash and Iris Cesmystruk. The family would like to express their sincere thanks and gratitude to the Doctors and Nursing staff of the Vita Personal Care Home and the Vita District Hospital for their loving care and support.
