Suddenly at his residence, Robert Balcaen, of Marchand , MB. passed away on May 6, 2000 at the age of 57 years. He is survived by 2 daughters: Michelle (Pat) Follows and Bridgette Balcaen, both of Winnipeg; 3 brothers: Reynald (Marion) Balcaen of Woodridge; Bernard (Solange) Balcaen of Notre Dame de Lourdes; Alain (Sylvia )Balcaen of Marchand; 2 sisters: Ghislaine (Frank) Marynowski of Winnipeg and Marielle (Henry) Wiebe of Steinbach, and 10 nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his son Patrick in infancy , his parents Gilles & Elodie Balcaen and 2 brothers in infancy. Robert worked as an accountant from 1960 until he retired. He had been associated with Royal Bank, Caisse Populaire and various accounting firms. He was active in many community organizations such as Knights of Columbus, Festival du Voyageur. He held positions in several accounting associations. Several years ago, Robert moved back to his home in Marchand where he helped care for his aging parents until after their death. His home was always open to everyone was. He loved and appreciated his every friendship. He had a wonderful quality of seeing only the good in everyone. He especially loved the visits of children. A “treat” was always waiting for them. “Uncle Bob” will be sadly missed. Funeral service was held on Thursday, May 11, 2000 at 2;00 p.m. in the St. Joachim Catholic Church, LaBroquerie, MB.. with Father Louis Vielfaure and Lèonce Aubin officiating. Interment followed in the Parish Cemetery.
