Peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2000 at the Menno Home in Grunthal, John Fehr Schroeder of Altona, formerly of Steinbach, and beloved husband of Anne P. Schroeder passed away at the age 81 years. Dad leaves to cherish his memory wife Anne; two sons; George and Tina Schroeder, Mitchell, Ed of Steinbach, three daughters; Tina and Neil Warkentin, Kleefeld, Helen and Andy Blatz, Winnipeg, Mary and Peter Penner, Kleefeld, 18 grandchildren and 25 great grandchildren. Also three step-sons seven step-daughters and their spouses and numerous step-grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife Gertrude, daughter Martha and one grandchild. Dad was born near Altona on March 1, 1919 to John A. and Helena Schroeder. At age 8 he moved to Paraguay with his family and moved back to Canada in 1954. Dad spent most of his life in carpentry and brick laying in Canada. Dad had a desire to help those in need or less fortunate by giving of his God given talents to build church structures here and abroad. He remained steadfast in his faith to the end. He also loved singing and music. He will be greatly missed by his family. Viewing and devotional was held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel on September 13t.h The Funeral service was held on Thursday, September 14 at 11:00 a.m. with Rev. Cornie J. Martens and Rev. Allan Kehler officiating. Interment followed at Mitchell Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons: Derek Schroeder, Brian Blatz, Dewayne and Jonathon Penner and Earl and Randy Warkentin. The family would like to extend thanks and appreciation to Dr. G. Dyck and nurses at the Grunthal Menno Home.
