Obituary of Wayne Porter

At home, surrounded by his family, Wayne passed away peacefully November 18, 2000, following a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Glenora, Manitoba, November 5, 1940 and received his education in Crystal City. He began a career with the Royal Bank in 1958. After 13 years and numerous transfers, he made a career change. He attended Thief River Falls Technical Institute and earned a diploma in Aircraft Maintenance Engineering. He was employed by Ike Enns and Harv Penner. Later he owned and operated his own business, Porter Aeromotive. He obtained a private pilot license and enjoyed taking family and friends flying. He retired December 1995 due to illness. As a youth he delivered groceries for a local grocer, played baseball and hockey. In Steinbach, Wayne was active with the Minor Hockey Program as a coach, manager and referee. He also curled on a number of winning teams, enjoyed the sport and the friends he made. Wayne leaves to cherish wonderful memories, his beloved wife Pat, devoted daughter Kristelle and Joe Langlois and grandchildren Briannon and Reed, the centre of his universe. Also surviving him are sister Barb and Nelson Lees, sister-in-law Joan and Grant Lawson, sister-in-law Jean Carruthers and their families. He was predeceased by his parents Roy and Dorothy, brother Roydon, in-laws, Sam and Mary Yuill and brother-in-law Hiram Yuill. Wayne would and did try anything. He had an incredible zest for life and enjoyed it to the fullest. His interests were many and varied but number one on his list was always his family. In keeping with his wishes, cremation has taken place. A celebration of his life was held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB. November 23, 2000 with the Rev. Steven Johann officiating. Donations to Steinbach Community Cancer Program (Chemo Outreach), Box 939, Steinbach, MB. ROA 2A0 or Jake Epp Public Library, Box 2050, Steinbach, MB. ROA 2AO in his memory would be appreciated.
