It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of George Funk, aged 79, on Sunday, December 24, 2000 at his home in Steinbach. George will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Justina, (Jessie) of 59 years, daughter Mary (Ron Borkowsky), son Dennis (Marjorie), daughter Edna (Les Ewacha), 7 grandchildren and their spouses, 5 great grandchildren, many relatives and friends. George was predeceased by his parents, his 5 brothers, a sister and the Funke Mejahles. George was born in 1921 in Bergthal and grew up on the family farm. Dad was baptized upon his confession of faith by Bishop P. S. Wiebe in 1941 and the same year married Justina (Jessie) Wiebe. Three years later they moved to New Bothwell where they farmed until this year. George contributed much to the Bothwell (Cheese) Co-op as a member, director, vice-president and 38 years as sales personnel. He also served the community as a school trustee when the present Bothwell School was inaugurated. Honorary pallbearers are grandchildren Sheldon, Shawna, Josie, Jason, Jeff, Chris, and Sheri. Pallbearers are nephews Ernie Funk, Garry Funk, Harry Funk, Stan Funk, Alvin Funk and Raymond Funk. Funeral service for George Funk was held Saturday, December 30 at Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church. Interment at Randolph Cemetery.
