Obituary of Eric Bedard

Our little drummer boy is gone to join God’s orchestra in heaven. Eric Albert our beloved special son left us on Saturday, February 24 at 1:00 a.m. at the age of 17. We, his parents, Monique and Albert Bédard, and sisters Julie, Lisa and Mélanie are honoured to have loved him as a son and a brother. He brought joy through laughter, love through his big hugs and big heart; he made everyone happy by playing drums, guitar and other instruments. His passion for music was our source of pride and joy. Everyone who knew him through his music knows that music was his life. His musical highlights included participating in musical competitions such as the first ever Francophone games held in New Brunswick where he helped his band win the gold medal representing Manitoba. He was very proud. Another accomplishment was winning top prize with his other band “Citrons Jaunes” (Mats, Keunf, Pete and Cols) in a French battle of the bands called “Chicane Electrique”, in Winnipeg. He participated in many other social events locally and abroad. He also played guitar at church from time to time. Our favourite place for him to play was at home, where we would sing along with him. We will miss terribly this time with him. Our home isn’t the same without the echoes of his music, but the memories will be forever precious and our pride overflows when we think back on what he has accomplished in his life. Through organ donation, his heart still beats in London, ON, his liver in Toronto, his lungs, pancreas and kidneys in Winnipeg. It is our solace to know that parts of him are still alive in others. We were astounded and thankful by the wonderful care and understanding that the staff of the Health Sciences Centre gave our family. We wish to thank sincerely Dr. West (neurology), Dr. Grierson (E.R.), Dr. Teherni, Dr. Grey, Linda Newton, Kelly (E.R.) and especially the nurses who took such good care of our son (and us), Susan, Alain, Joanne and Ralph in the surgical intensive care unit., Karla Farstad (transplant co-ordinator), Father Barry and our parish priest Father Léonce Aubin. Thank you. You will all be forever in our hearts. To our families, parents, brother and sisters and friends, for their support and shoulders to lean on, thank you. Even though we truly appreciate your kindness, please do not send any flowers or dedicate church masses. In lieu of these we would appreciate a monetary donation in care of the “Ecole St. Joachim music program,” Box 10 La Broquerie, MB R0A 0W0. This will be used to buy new instruments and a sound system for Eric’s school, in his memory. The roots of his music began in this school program and it’s our way of insuring that the music will live on. Thank you. Prayers and funeral services will be held at St. Joachim Catholic Church in La Broquerie on Thursday, March 1, 2001 at 1:00 p.m. with Father Léonce Aubin officiating. His grandparents, many aunts, uncles, cousins and good friends will cherish his memory with love.
