Passed away peacefully at his home March 15, 2001 at the age of 71 years. He is survived by his wife Mary, his brother Ed and sister-in-law Hilda Wiebe of Winnpeg, nephew Gordon and niece Brenda; three brothers-in-law Dan Doerksen of New Bothwell, Peter Doerksen and his family of Camrose, AB, and Edward and Tina Doerksen and family of New Bothwell, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins and friends. John grew up near Plum Coulee; later worked at Assiniboine Park from 1961 to 1992. John married Mary Doerksen in 1970 and they had 30 happy years together. They moved to Steinbach in September 1997. In July 1999 the leukemia and heart problems took his strength and health. They attended the CMC Church in Steinbach. John gave his heart and soul in full surrender to the Lord Jesus Christ. He was baptized and took communion October 19, 2000. He was predeceased by his parents Jacob and Maria Wiebe, his brother Jim and sister-in-law Mary Wiebe on July 27, 1998. John was a very loving person and took special interest in people. He will always be remembered for his witty sense of humour and excellent memory of details and events. The funeral service will be held Monday, March 19, 2001 at 2:00 p.m. at the Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover St., Steinbach. Viewing will be held Sunday March 18, 2001, 6:00 – 6:30 p.m. with a devotional at 6:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel and at the church prior to the service. Interment at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach. Donations in memory of John may be made to the Gideon Bible Plan.
