Obituary of Grace Funk
After a courageous battle with cancer, Grace Funk passed away peacefully on July 27, 2007 with her family by her side.
She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband Cornelius (Neil) Funk, and two daughters, Debbie and Karen and Derek Gross, and two granddaughters, Kalene and Megan. She is also survived by three sisters, Dorothy (Pete) Regehr, Florence Goertzen, and Irene (John) Martens, and two brothers Art (Betty) Barkman and Elmer (Helen) Barkman and one brother-in-law Clarence MacDonald as well as numerous in-laws. She was predeceased by her parents, one sister, Marion MacDonald and one brother-in-law Dave Goertzen.
Grace was born in Steinbach on May 16, 1946 to Jacob R.E. and Minna Barkman. She married Neil Funk on November 9, 1963. They moved to Winnipeg the following year where they lived for a few years before returning to Steinbach, living in and around the area for the rest of their married life.
Her main loves were her family, traveling and spending time at the lake. She especially enjoyed the times her granddaughters were able to spend with her at the trailer they had at Lake of the Woods. She also enjoyed baking and sewing. Her buns were always a special treat.
As Grace’s illness progressed, everyone who talked with her witnessed the silent strength she displayed. It was also evident that she possessed a true faith in our Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ, and we know that she is with Him today.
The family wishes to thank all those who helped with Grace’s illness including the wonderful staff of CancerCare Manitoba, Palliative Care and the doctors and nursing staff at Bethesda Hospital.
The funeral service will be held Thursday, August 2 at 2:00 p.m. at the Steinbach Chortitzer Mennonite Church, 479 Hanover St with interment at Heritage Cemetery.
