Obituary of Matt Saranchuk

It is with deep sorrow the family announces the passing of our beloved father and grandfather Matt on Thursday, July 22, 2010 at the Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB. Man will be missed and forever remembered by his son Terry (Cindy), and grand daughters Kelly and Andrea. He was predeceased by his wife Effie, his parents Wasyl and Wasylyna, his brothers John and Joseph, as well as sisters Mary, Ann, and Doris. Matt was born January 1, 1918 in Stuartburn, Manitoba, where he attended school and lived on the family farm. In 1950, dad pursued training as a diesel mechanic in Edmonton, but the sudden passing of his father brought him back to the farm. On June 7, 1952 he married Effie Krashy, and together they farmed in the Stuartburn area until her passing in 1993. During his life Dad was very involved in the community; serving as a school trustee, treasurer of the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Catholic Church at Stuartburn, and president of the Vita Co-op. In 1997, Matt purchased a home in Steinbach where he resided in retirement until his passing. The family expresses special thanks to the staff of Seniors 55 Plus and volunteers who assisted dad throughout the years. We would also like to thank the doctors and nurses who cared for Dad at Bethesda Hospital. The compassion to our family was greatly appreciated. Prayers will be held at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach on Wednesday, July 28, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. Divine Liturgy will be celebrated on Thursday, July 29, 2010, at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart of Jesus Ukrainian Catholic Church in Tolstoi, with interment at the parish cemetery. Vichnaya Pamyat!
