Mr. Peter Froese, 99, passed away peacefully on July 24, 2010, at his residence in Grunthal, MB, with his children by his side. Dad was born on May 13, 1911, in Steinfeld, South Russia. In 1926, he immigrated to Canada with his parents. He was baptized upon confession of his faith and was a life long member of the Elim Church. On September 20, 1936, Dad married our Mom. They farmed for most of their life. Dad loved the dairy farm. He worked very, very hard together with Mom and his children. He sold the farm to his son Pete in 1973. Dad and Mom then made the move to Grunthal. Dad continued to work on the farm. Dad loved going to the farm to check the fields and the crops. Last summer, Dad was still driving car and would drive to the farm, slowly cross the yard, maybe catch a glimpse of Edwin and then continue on home. Dad and Mom were caretakers of the church and the credit Union for many years. Dad was maintenance supervisor, as well as on church council. In 2000, Dad made the move to the apartment to be closer to Mom who was in the Menno Home. Dad was not a complainer and made the move quite smoothly. After our Mom died in 2001, Dad lost his life partner and was very lonely. Then in 2002, his oldest son Pete died accidently, and our Dad’s heart was crushed. But once again his strong faith kept him going. In the past month, Dad’s health deteriorated. He had no pain, just very weak and tired. He got progressively weaker as the days went by. Dad always expressed his thankfulness for all the help he received from his children and the home care workers. What a blessing it was that Dad’s mind was clear till his last breath. Dad leaves to mourn three daughters: Betty (Leonard Friesen), Nettie (John Wiens), Helen (Benny Friesen), son Ron (Yolanda) daughter-in-law Jessie, 15 grandchildren, 30 great grand-children, and one sister-in-law Dorothy Schellenberg. Dad was predeceased by his wife, Helen, son Pete, grandson Ron, great-grandson Ethan, one brother, and three sisters. Rest in peace dear Dad till we meet again. Your loving family. Viewing will be held Friday, July 30, at 7:00 p.m. with a devotional at 7:30 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach. The funeral service will take place Saturday, July 31, at 2:00 p.m. at Elim Mennonite Church, Grunthal, MB with interment at the Grunthal Cemetery.
