Obituary of Adila Peters
Adila Peters passed away peacefully at the Grunthal Menno Home on December 15, 2011, at the age of 96 years. She went home to be with her Lord and Savior, and has joined her beloved husband, family, and friends.
Our mother was born on October 14, 1915 to Dietrich and Maria Warkentin in Dalmeny, Saskatchewan.
Adila’s grandparents were homesteaders who moved from Minnesota to Saskatchewan with their sons and families, to purchase farmland offered by the government.
Adila and William J. Peters were married June 16, 1937 in Langham, Sask. The young progressive farming couple had four children. Several years later Adila’s husband, William was asked by their home church to become a lay pastor, and so began a long life of serving churches in various places such as Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Argentina, S.A. She was an example of the godly women described in Proverbs 31. They served together until retirement in 1982, at which time they bought their retirement acreage, near Grunthal. In 1994 they built a new retirement home in town.
After the death of her husband William, 1996, Adila lived in her own home until 2006, when she moved into the Grunthal Senior Home, Main Street, and then to the Menno Home in 2009.
Surviving Adila are her three siblings, and her FAMILY: Lois (Travis) Reimer of Winnipeg, MB, Wes (Barbara) Peters of Andover, Minnesota, Blondina (Don) Matheson of Toronto, Ontario, Gwen (Ernest) Froese of Grunthal, MB; 20 GRANDCHILDREN, 24 GREAT GRANDCHILDREN, one GREAT-GREAT-GRANDCHILD.
Adila was predeceased by husband Rev. William J Peters, two grandsons, Ivan Todd Peters and David William Froese and three siblings.
Mom, we love you very much, and we’ll all miss you forever. Thus closes the chapter of our history; we no longer have our parents. We will meet in heaven someday.
The family is very grateful to the staff and volunteers at the Grunthal Menno Home for the loving care and compassion they provided for Mom.
If friends so desire donations may be made to the Menno Home Foundation; Box 280; Grunthal, MB R0A 0R0
