Obituary of Katharina Warkentin

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” 2 Timothy 4:7 Katherine Warkentin, aged 99, of Steinbach, passed away peacefully on September 17, 2001. She leaves to cherish her memory two sons: Peter and Annie of Giroux, Ed and Grace of Winnipeg; three daughters: Dora (Cornie Fast) of Blumenort, Mary (Willie Plett) of Steinbach, Karoline (Martin Dueck) of Steinbach; daughter-in-law Nettie of Winnipeg; 26 grandchildren and 56 great grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters: Elizabeth (John Reimer) and Helen (John Wiebe); four sisters-in-law: Margaret Unger, Helen Unger, Aganetha Warkentin and Katharine Plett. She was predeceased by our Father in February 1969, one son Albert in May 1977, two grandsons and two great granddaughters. Mother was born May 4, 1902 in Blumenhof, MB to Cornelius and Aganetha Unger. On the confession of her faith in Jesus Christ she was baptized in the Evangelical Mennonite Church. Her love for her Lord and the Word of God has touched our lives deeply. She married our father Henry Warkentin and they were blessed with six children. For many years they shared joys, sorrows and concerns for their family. For a number of years they lived in Morris. From there they moved to a farm in the Giroux area. Mother enjoyed gardening and was always happy to share with those in need. When they retired they moved to Steinbach, where about five years later mother was deeply bereaved when our father passed away very suddenly. The family wishes to express sincere thanks for the wonderful care our Mother received from all staff at Rest Haven Nursing Home. The funeral service for Katherine Warkentin was held Friday, September 21, 2001, 2:00 p.m. at the Steinbach Evangelical Mennonite Church. Interment at Memorial Cemetery.
