John K. Barkman, age 95, passed away at the Bethesda Hospital, Steinbach, MB. He is survived by one daughter Marlene (Milton) Penner, Steinbach, MB and two sons Kenneth (Karen), Winnipeg, MB and Richard (June), Perth, Australia; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren: Doug (Paulette) Penner and daughters Hilary and Hayley, Allan (Simone) Penner and sons Kyle, Chad and Darcy, Keith (Donna) Penner, Kevin (Heather) Barkman, Kristen (Jim) Moan, Kimberly (Luther) Schell, Britt Barkman and Benjamin Barkman. He is also survived by one brother Walter (Martha) and three sisters Mary (Neil) Friesen, Mathilda (Jac Q.) Friesen and Doris (Menno) Giesbrecht. He was predeceased by his wife, Sarah, one brother Herman and two sisters Martha and Margaret. John was a loving and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather. He was an expert knitter, woodworker and could fix almost anything. His family and many others know him as reserved with a quiet sense of humour, accepting and gentle nature, inquisitive and very creative. He will be greatly missed. Viewing will be Monday, September 24, 2001, 12 noon to 2:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 150 Penfeld Drive, Steinbach, MB. The funeral service will follow at 2:00 p.m. Interment to be held at a later date.
