Obituary of Wilhelmine Saskosky

Peacefully on Wednesday, September 26, 2001 surrounded by her family, Minnie Saskosky passed away at the age of 87 years. Left to cherish her memory are her daughters Sylvia Booth and Doreen (Robert) McClocklin, granddaughter Heather, sisters Elsie Schinkel, Marge (Neil) Yaskow, Elma Borkowsky, Lorraine (Jake) Rempel, one brother Adolph (Norie) Borkowsky and many nieces, nephews and friends. She was predeceased by her husband Frank, sister Lily and brother Eddie. Minnie was born in the Friedensfeld area February 1, 1914 to Frank and Julianna Borkowsky and married Frank Saskosky on October 12, 1939. The first years of their married life were spent in the Steinbach area and then moved to Winnipeg in 1963. Later they moved to Maple Ridge, BC. Mother was a kind and cheerful person - very generous - always thinking of others first. She loved gardening and had a talent for growing beautiful flowers. She loved to listen to Doreen play the piano. Mother participated in Bible Study every week at St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Winnipeg. Her granddaughter Heather was the most precious thing. Funeral Service will be held Monday, October 1, 2001, 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Steinbach with Pastor Al Maier officiating. Interment following at St. Paul Lutheran Cemetery. Viewing and gathering was held Sunday, September 30, 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. with devotional at 7:30 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel and will also be held at the church prior to the service. The family would like to express sincere thanks to the doctors and staff of Ridge Meadows Hospital and her sister Marge Yaskow for their compassion and support during her illness. Should friends so desire, donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Society and/or the Osteoporosis Society.
