Obituary of Henry Hiebert

Peacefully at sunrise on Sunday, October 14, 2001, Henry passed into the arms of his Lord. He was born January 16, 1914 to John and Helena Hiebert in Herbert, Saskatchewan. Our Dad was predeceased by his parents, his brothers John, Ike, Cornie and Jake and by his sisters Nettie, Helen, Elizabeth, Annie and one sister in infancy, Katherine. Henry is survived by his wife Margaret, his son Bob (Olga), daughter Esther (Philip), daughter Carol (Larry), son Norman (Sandra) and son Ken (Heather); 13 grandchildren: Gordon (Rhonda), Gwen (Mark), Bailey (Lyndon), Darcy (Jennifer), Todd (Carol), Marshall (Rhoda), Faron (Lynne), Jeremy (Juanita), Claudette (Myron), Kim (Mike), Tyler (Christina), Kevin and Laura; nine great grandchildren: Todd, Joshua, Mason, Alexander, Nikolas, Connor, Abigail, Benjamin and Quinton; by his sister Susie (Klassen), brothers Abe (Annie), Pete (Anne) and Philip (Olga), brother-in-law Dick Klassen, sisters-in-law, Kay Neufeld and Elsie Klassen. Henry was baptized on the confession of his faith in the Lord at Carrot River, Saskatchewan in 1940. Henry and Margaret were married in 1941 at Margaret’s parent’s home near Carrot River. They homesteaded near Carrot River, farming in summer and logging in the winter. Four of their children were born here. In 1956 they moved to Burns Lake, BC, where he was employed in the logging industry and where their fifth child was born. Henry and Margaret left Burns Lake with many fond memories and moved to MacGregor, MB in 1962. Henry was a farmer in this area as well as working at Pioneer Electric in Winnipeg. In 1971 they moved to 1146 Windermere Avenue in Winnipeg where they lived for 30 years. At this time they began attending Morrow Gospel Church and have always been thankful for the support of their church family. Reverend Dave and Deanna Dyck have walked with our family during Dad’s illness and passing and we thank them. After Henry retired in 1979, he enjoyed many hobbies. These included camping with family and friends in their Boler trailer, woodworking, fishing, Bibles studies, cross-country skiing, making hangers and lawn chairs, making noodles with Margaret and spoiling the Grandchildren. In April of 2001 Henry first became ill with congestive heart failure and was admitted to Victoria General Hospital on April 22nd. Henry had been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Disease several years earlier and it became necessary to move him to extended care at this time. We would like to thank the staff of Fort Garry Care Center for being there when we couldn’t. During this time Henry’s health deteriorated quickly and we were thankful for his peaceful passing. Dad, Grandpa, you were a kind and gentle man. You loved to tickle us, eat black jellybeans and you loved to love. We will miss you always.
